I’m not really an extreme minimalist, but I do like the idea of having an edited space: one with less stuff yet more impact. So even though there may be a lack of excess, there is more meaning or more quality or more beauty. There is a short article that discusses the principles of an edited space here.
Usually when I flip through decorating magazines I am overcome with the busyness of the images. Competing patterns, too many accessories, and crowded furniture. For one, I don’t know how you can live in that environment with kids, and for two, I don’t know how you can feel calm in such a visually demanding space.
These are some of my favorite edited spaces. They feel calm, simple, and sophisticated.
